In a ‘net zero’ energy society, energy storage will be required over a vast range of discharge times – from less than one-tenth of a second to more than a year (IMechE, 2020).

Long-duration energy storage (LDES) technologies are those that can store energy for at least 10 hours and discharge on demand.

Energy Future Inc. (EFI) is committed to developing practical, feasible and viable innovative solutions for LDES, built on the founders’ 35+ years of innovation in the energy storage market.

Our modular solutions deploy mechanical and hydraulic systems that are both cost effective and fast to implement with unit capacities of 10 to 50 MWhr deployable to over 1GWhr at a site.

Consulting

EFI is available to advise on modular LDES solutions, their form, estimates of round trip efficiency (RTE), capital expenditure cost (CAPEX), operating cost (OPEX) and embodied carbon.

Licensing

Modular LDES licenses provide access to non-site-specific engineering documentation and specifications. Certain solutions include protection in the form of provisional and pending patents and document copyright.

Engineering

We are supported by the capability and reach of the global professional services company, Arup. Site-specific engineering solutions from pre-concept to complete design can be progressed for project locations in most geographies and jurisdictions.
